Network Settings Private/ Public

1) To check if windows is on a private or public network right click on the network icon near the bottom right corner of the screen (near the clock and date)

2) Then click on “Open Network and Sharing Center”

3) And then view the network type

The Problem:

The ideal fix for this problem would be to
1) Delete the network that Windows thinks is public (this cannot be done over a remote session for obvious reasons)
2) Restart the machine
3) Reconnect to the network
4) Upon successful connection a Windows 10 sidebar dialog box will appear and ask if you want to discover other PCs on the network – Make sure to select yes during this step, selecting no OR IGNORING THE PROMPT will result in windows setting the network as public.

Troubleshooting steps to consider:

To forget a network or to set it as private within windows:

1) Hold down the Windows key and press “I” on the keyboard. This will open windows settings. Click on “Network & Internet”

2) Click on “Wi-Fi” or “Ethernet” depending on that machines connection. Then click on the networks name towards the top of the page.

3) After clicking on the network name the page will change to tell you details about that network with a checkbox underneath the text “Make this PC discoverable” Ensure this is set to ON.

4) With Wi-Fi connections click on Wi-Fi then the name of the Wi-Fi network and there will be an option to forget the network on the page, the Discoverable option is the same on wired and wireless connections options pages.

Adding Firewall rules to Windows 10:

1) Press the Windows key and type the word “fire” and click on “Windows Firewall with Advanced Security”

2) Inbound Rules are set for our software during the installation so we need to add the outbound rules. Click on outbound rules and then click on “new rule”

3) The new rule dialog box has several options. Choose the following
a. Rule Type: Program

b. This program path needs to point to the .exe we need to allow to connect to the internet
i. C:\TruGolf\E6 Golf 1.6\TruUpdate.exe

iii. C:\Program Files\TruGolf\E6 Golf 1.6\E6Golf.exe

c. Action needs to be set to “Allow”

d. Set it for all network types

e. Name the rule and Finish

4) You have to repeat step 3 until you have 3 new rules for all of the directories in step 3-B-i,ii,iii.
5) Test E6.
6) If that doesn’t work run the program as an admin, if it must run as an admin to work disable User Account Control promts by typing UAC into the start menu

7) Set the notifications to “never notify” and click OK
