Garmin R50 Connection Instructions for E6 Connect

Symptom:

  1. Garmin R50 is not connected to E6 Connect.
  2. Error message in E6 software stating that Garmin R50 is not connected.

To connect your Garmin Approach R50 to E6 Connect, you must establish a direct communication link between the R50's built-in hotspot and your computer.

1. Enable Partner Software on the R50
The R50 does not broadcast its simulator signal until it is specifically placed into "Connect" mode.
  1. On the R50 touchscreen, sign in to your Garmin account.

  2. Scroll to the farthest tile to the right on the home screen.

  3. Select Connect (or "Partner Software" depending on your firmware version).

  4. Choose E6 CONNECT.

    • The device will now generate a local wireless hotspot, typically named "ApproachR50_[Serial Number]"

2. Connect Your Computer to the R50 Hotspot
  1. On the PC you are using for E6 Connect, open your Wi-Fi settings

  2. Locate the ApproachR50 network in the list of available connections and click Connect.

    • Note: Your PC may warn you that there is "No Internet" on this connection. This is normal, as the connection is for data transfer between the radar and software only.

  3. Pro Tip: Ensure your Network Profile for this connection is set to Public. Windows updates can sometimes reset this to "Private," which may block the data bridge.

3. Configure the Tracking System in E6 Connect
  1. Launch the E6 Connect software.

  2. Navigate to Settings > Simulator.

  3. Under the "Tracking System" dropdown, select Garmin R50.

  4. Click Configure to verify the connection.

    • If this is your first time connecting, you may be prompted to install Bonjour. You must accept this installation for the device to auto-connect in the future.

Troubleshooting Common Issues
  • Device Not Found: If E6 Connect doesn't see the R50, ensure no other apps (like the Garmin Golf app on a nearby phone) are actively connected to the R50, as it can only maintain one primary "partner" connection at a time.

  • Firewall Blocks: If the connection remains unstable, ensure that E6 Connect is allowed through your Windows Firewall for both Public and Private networks.

  • Pace of Play: Remember that unlike the R10, the R50 handles much of the processing on-unit, providing a near-instantaneous shot trigger in the E6 software.
