Chip shots and putts do not appear in E6 Connect with Garmin devices

Chip shots and putts often do not appear on E6 Connect software with Garmin devices (specifically the Approach R10) due to low clubhead speeds and minimal impact force, which the radar struggles to detect. These short, slow swings often fall below the required detection threshold. Putts are generally not registered without specific, precise, and often adjusted hardware placement.

Here are the primary reasons and troubleshooting steps:

  • Low Swing Speed & Impact: The R10 radar requires a certain amount of speed and ball travel to register a shot. Chips and putts often fail to reach this threshold, leading to "no reads".
  • Optimal Placement/Alignment: Placing the ball slightly closer to the unit (about an inch outside the red dot, or elevated slightly) can improve chip detection.
  • Sensor Limitations: Putts are frequently not detected without using additional sensors to map the action.
  • Ball Type: Using foam or plastic balls for indoor practice is not recommended as they do not provide enough impact for the radar to detect accurately.
  • E6 Filtering: E6 software may be filtering out the slow, low-velocity data that the radar does manage to capture.

Tips to Improve Detection:

  • Ensure the R10 is placed 6 to 8 feet behind the ball and the ball is 8 to 10 feet from the net.
  • Ensure the unit is level with the mat or slightly elevated for better reading.
  • Ensure the device is on the correct hole in the software.
